In your initial contact with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon (OMS) for a consultation, they will ask about your current condition. Next, they will schedule an appointment with you by requesting you to sign and complete some documentation. As your appointment draws near, staying prepared is vital to minimize your anxiety, and we give you tips on how to be ready for the visit.

Gather All Your Documentations

During your phone conversation, your OMS probably informed you of the documents you will need during your initial visit. However, if they did not, consider carrying photo identification, dentist referral, and dental and medical insurance cards. If under any medications, carry the list with you and the contact of your physician or other specialists you see.

As a new patient, you will need to fill out your registration details, and completing these forms beforehand ensures an easier and quicker appointment. However, if you are having issues completing the forms, fill them out once you arrive at the office, but this could mean coming in a little earlier than your appointment time.

Prepare Your Questions

Your first in-person consultation with the recommended oral and maxillofacial surgeon is an opportunity to get answers to all your questions about the procedure. However, if you are nervous during your appointment, you may forget some of the questions. Hence, it is advisable to prepare your list in advance.

Freshen Your Mouth

Taking time to brush and floss your teeth before visiting your OMS will boost your confidence during the consultation, as you will not have to worry about bad breath or debris stuck in your mouth. A clean mouth will also allow the team to see clearly what is happening with your teeth, gums, and other oral tissues.

Schedule Your Appointment With Us

Preparing for your oral and maxillofacial appointment ahead of time will make the visit much easier and ease your anxiety. Therefore, prepare your documents and questions before the appointment and freshen your mouth before showing up at the OMS office.
