Your Sinuses Could Lead to Dental Pain

While many people who suffer from sinus and allergy issues fully understand the discomfort and irritation that can come as a result of being stopped up, draining, and constantly blowing their noses, many of them are completely unaware that it can also lead to oral discomfort and pain. Not only that, but when left unchecked for an extended period of time, sinus issues can help to develop much more serious dental conditions. Here is how your sinuses may be affecting your oral health as we speak:

Through Pressure and Drainage

When the sinus cavities (which are in close proximity to your upper jaw and top teeth) are under continual pressure and constantly clogged or stopped up, that pressure is continually looking for a way to reduce itself. After a certain amount of time and with higher levels of pressure, a person will actually begin to feel it in their teeth. It begins with a sensation of overcrowding and can quickly devolve into serious pain if the sinus issues aren't resolved or relieved.

Through Infection

If the sinus issues have progressed to the point of infection and that infection isn't quickly and properly treated it can then spread to the mouth, which creates a whole new set of problems, much more serious than a little bit of pain or temporary discomfort. Now you have a separate dental condition that needs to be seen and treated by a professional, one which won't be helped by sinus medications alone.

To find out if your particular dental pain or issues may be caused by trouble with your sinuses, all you need to do is take a few moments to get in contact with our clinic. We would be glad to offer any information that we can, as well as set up a time for you to come by and have a closer look taken to see what other underlying issues may be at work.
