How to make overdentures predictable

Posted on 2/21/2022 by Pacific Oral and Facial Surgery Center
How to make overdentures predictableDentures are an effective and widely used prosthesis to offer a treatment option for edentulous patients. These are patients that are missing all their teeth. Dentures can also be an excellent alternative if you have missing teeth on the upper or lower jaws. These can be caused by various factors such as being involved in an accident or due to an underlying medical condition. Whatever the cause of your missing teeth, it is vital that you replace your teeth. Even though dentures can offer relief, there are a few disadvantages that make our team recommend overdentures. Come to our clinic for patient education sessions that will help you maintain perfect oral health.

What is the Difference Between a Regular Denture and an Overdenture?

The main difference is usually they get attached to the gums. Dentures are fitted on the gums using natural suction, adhesives, or a combination of the two. With overdentures, they are held in place by screwing or clipping them onto dental implants that were previously placed in the jawbone. Overdentures resemble regular dentures in looks, feel, and functionality.

Overdentures Provide a Predictable Treatment Option

Regular dentures are not a preferred option for many patients due to some shortcomings. For instance, they may not properly fit, and can regularly fall off, even on public occasions such as at dinner. Also, the fact that you will have to remove them every night before going to bed, seems to be disliked by a majority of patients. For that, overdentures become more predictable since they are a more permanent alternative.

Due to the use of modern technologies, we can create a custom overdenture that will deliver expected results. If you need more information about overdenture treatment, you can come to our practice, or call to talk to one of our dental experts who will educate you more about the procedure.
