How to Take Care of Your Toothbrush?

Posted on 10/24/2022 by Pacific Oral and Facial Surgery Center
How to Take Care of Your Toothbrush?Optimal oral health calls for appropriate dental hygiene practices. One of these is brushing your teeth regularly. When you brush your teeth twice a day as recommended by our dentists, you will be able to avoid dental problems such as cavities and decay. Brushing your teeth removes food particles and dental plaque from the surface of your teeth and gums. Dental plaque leads to decay and cavities which can lead to serious issues such as losing your tooth completely. You should therefore take the necessary measures to help prevent such oral health conditions from arising. Taking appropriate care of your toothbrush is key in maintaining proper dental health.

Always rinse your toothbrush with plenty of clean running water

After brushing your teeth, wash your toothbrush with plenty of water, to remove food particles and bacteria from the bristles. This will make sure that you do not carry the bacteria back into your mouth the next time you use your toothbrush.

Store your Brush in an Upright Position and Airy Environment

Ensure that your toothbrush dries completely by having the head of the toothbrush in an upright position. This ensures that water completely drains from the bristles, and in this way, any bacteria will also drain away. Bacteria thrive in wet conditions, and you can prevent this by storing your toothbrush in an airy place where it dries effectively.

Regular Replacement of Your Toothbrush

Dentists recommend that you get a new toothbrush after every three months. This will give you a new toothbrush that has no bacteria trapped within bristles, and also one which has bristles that can remove plaque from the surface of your teeth.
