What Osseointegration Means for Long-Term OutcomesOnce osseointegration is complete, the implant behaves mechanically like a natural tooth root. Biting and chewing forces are transferred through the post into the surrounding bone, providing the functional stimulation that bone tissue needs to remain healthy and dense. This is the same stimulation that a natural root provides, and its absence following tooth loss is the primary reason the jaw begins to resorb over time. By restoring that stimulation, a properly integrated implant helps preserve bone volume in ways that no other restoration can replicate. Dentures and bridges sit above the gumline and transfer force to soft tissue or adjacent teeth rather than into the bone itself.
