Wisdom Teeth Removal
|
• | There is not enough room in the jaw to accommodate them. |
• | The teeth are blocked by bone or tissue growth. |
• | The teeth are growing at an angle. |
• | Overcrowding. If your jaw does not have enough room to accommodate the wisdom teeth, they can push against your other teeth as they attempt to erupt. Your other teeth are then pushed out of natural alignment, leading to overcrowding. Not only does overcrowding affect your smile, but it can also lead to issues such as bruxism and TMJ disorder. |
• | Damage to adjacent teeth. If your wisdom teeth are growing at an angle, they can grow into the adjacent teeth. This can lead to cracks under the gum line, and this damage cannot be corrected with crowns. |
• | Cysts. Cysts can develop as a result of impacted teeth or infections. They are fluid-filled sacs that are benign. While benign, they can do significant damage to your jawbone if they are not treated. |
• | Localized infections. If a wisdom tooth is only partially erupted, it creates an ideal hiding place for bacteria and food particles. This can result in a localized infection known as pericoronitis. |
